Reading Notes: Week 2 Anthology
The Lion in Love from The Fables of Aesop by Joseph Jacobs
- I love the innate sadness of this story where you can feel the pain of the lion without having to witness his reaction to losing everything.
- His willingness to give up everything for love was so touching; it's a quality that I would love to include in a character of mine.
- One of the things that I would change about this story is that the female love interest's point of view is completely neglected. Her absence could serve the purpose of magnifying the lion's feelings over hers, but I feel like it detracts from the story slightly. Knowing her emotions about the situation could either heighten or alleviate the sadness of the ending.
- It might be interesting to get the Lion's point of view after he has lost everything.
- I don't like how it just sums up his suffering with the simple phrase "Love can tame the wildest." Is that truly meant to be the point of this story?
